Introducing robin liew harper
‘Once upon a time’ is how many a story begins, likewise, it’s how my love of stories first began. Nothing is quite like a good story; with heroes that inspire and villains that make you shiver; with wondrous places that spark wanderlust and twists that keep you invested until the very last moment. I wanted to live the story, so I aspired to become a storyteller.
I started my journey with the study of the Performing Arts at Sunway University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was an enriching experience, as the arts in the South East Asia are various and vibrant in their own unique ways. As part of my studies, I would learn and embrace some of these arts, like ‘Wayang Kulit’ (shadow puppetry) and the spiritual dances of ‘Mak Yong’. Of course, we would also study Stanislavsky and Meisner, as well as the practical skills of theatre and film production. It was a balanced learning experience; global but culturally aware, mentally stimulating with plenty of opportunity for practice and interaction. Eventually, I would return to the United Kingdom, but I would be bringing the world with me.
I came to Cardiff, Wales (‘the land of song’) and took up a degree in Film & Video production at the University of South Wales. Now, with skills in performance and video production, I hope to create artworks that inspire people, broaden horizons and push the limits of my creativity.
